Microphone does not pick up sound | Bose A30 Aviation Headset
When does the issue occur?
All the time during normal use
Make sure the white dot or the word TALK on the microphone base faces your mouth.
If needed, twist the microphone base.
Make sure the microphone is fully connected to the headband.
The mic should be snug to the headset with no gaps.

If the issue only occurs while connected to an intercom, check the intercom squelch setting.
Set the squelch setting fully open to allow all audio from your microphone to be heard. If this resolves the issue, adjust the squelch setting until sound from your microphone is not heard until your begin speaking into it.
Determine if the 6-pin-to-G/A adapter is being used.
If using the 6-pin-to-G/A adapter cable, check the condition of the cable and its connectors. If the adapter is damaged, replace it.
Determine if any non-Bose adapter cables are being used.
The connectors on Bose aviation headsets are built to military specification standards and meet TSO certifications. Microphone audio issues can occur with certain portable radio adapters due to the use of non-military spec microphone jacks. The contacts within the mic jack may not line up properly to make a solid connection to the mic plug. Tolerances across numerous adapter cables have a wide range of deviation.
Try a different adapter, rotating the mic plug or reposition its depth in the jack until a connection is made. If the issue persists, contact the manufacturer of the adapter or device being connected.

Check if you can hear your own voice in the headset during Bluetooth® phone calls while disconnected from the aircraft.
Sidetone is the sound of your own voice heard through your headset. While connected to the aircraft panel, the panel creates sidetone; while disconnected from the panel and using battery power, your headset creates sidetone. On a connected Bluetooth device, open the phone dialer, enter a digit (you don't need to actually place a call), then talk into the microphone. If you hear sidetone, the issue is with the panel or intercom settings; if you do not hear sidetone, the issue is with the headset.
Check if the headset works while connected but powered off.
If the headset works without power, the connections are correct and the headset electronics are the issue.
Connect the headset to a different panel jack or, if possible, to another aircraft.
Non-TSO equipment, worn jacks/loose connections, or incorrectly wired jacks (i.e. reversed stereo or mic / ground wires) in the aircraft can cause issues. If available, try connecting the headset to another jack in the aircraft or to jacks in a separate aircraft. If the headset works fine when connected elsewhere, the panel jack or wiring to the jack is the issue.
Disconnect all other headsets connected to the aircraft.
Unplug any other headsets connected to the aircraft intercom. If the issue goes away, it is related to another headset. Reconnect the headsets one-by-one to determine which, then check the settings for that headset.
Plug in a different headset.
If available, connect a different headset to the aircraft to determine if the issue is related to the aircraft panel or its settings.
Clean the headset cable connectors with isopropyl alcohol.
The connectors at the end of the headset cable might have debris or corrosion on them. Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to a cloth, wipe the metal connectors, then dry them with a clean cloth. Once cleaned and dried, connect the headset and try again.
When the headset is connected to the aircraft and making a Bluetooth phone call
Be sure your product is within 30 feet (9 meters) of the Bluetooth® device.
Bluetooth range is about 30' (9 m). Try moving the device and product closer together.
If the issue only occurs while connected to an intercom, check the intercom squelch setting.

Try connecting a different Bluetooth® device.
If your earbuds connect to another Bluetooth device, it suggests that their Bluetooth is working properly. The issue may be with the first device or its settings.
Reboot the Bluetooth® device.
Electronics might need to be reset on occasion to correct minor issues. This is typically done by shutting down the device, then powering it on again.
Make sure the Secondary Audio Mode switch is in the MUTE or MIX
- Only one secondary audio source can be heard at a time
- Audio from a secondary source will never override intercom communications
- When MUTE or MIX are selected, incoming and outgoing phone calls automatically mute all other secondary audio sources
- During a phone call, intercom and phone call audio are mixed
