Voice commands not recognized by a connected phone | Bose Bluetooth headset

Be sure to press the Call button only once for voice commands.

If you're trying to access voice control with your phone, just press the Call button once. (Double-pressing the Call button calls the last dialed number and holding the button disconnects your product from the connected phone.)

Some phones may take up to 20 seconds for initial voice commands to launch.

The communication between the headset and the phone may delay activation of voice commands. However, typically this is true the first time the voice command feature is activated after the headset is powered on – subsequent uses should open faster. The length of the delay varies by phone model.

Check if the phone responds to the voice command without your Bose headset.

Turn off your Bose headset, then make the same voice request using only the phone to determine if the phone recognizes the command.

Be sure the device supports voice commands / voice dialing.

Old devices, such as the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and phones running on Android 2.1, do not support this function. Other devices may have this function, though its activation can only be done with the phone and not through Bluetooth®. For more information, refer to manufacturer of the device.

Some phones do not support the selection of a specific number within a contact using voice command

Not all phones allow for the selection of a particular number within a contact from voice commands over Bluetooth®. The preferred method of voice command input for the Bose Bluetooth Headset is to use stepped commands. Some phones will prompt for more information, an example would be:

Say a command
Call John Doe
What Location?
Mobile
Calling John Doe - Mobile

Not all phones will prompt for more input, such as a phone extension or specific contact entry, a single text line can be used. An example of this would be:

Say a command
Call John Doe Mobile
Calling John Doe - Mobile

This type of input will be phone specific

Reset the mobile device and reconnect to the headset.

Reset the mobile device and then try reconnecting the headset:
  1. Remove your Bose headset from the memory of the mobile device. This list is typically found in the Bluetooth® menu of the device
  2. Turn the mobile device off completely and then power it on again
  3. Try connecting your headset again. For more info, see Connecting a Bluetooth® device.

Some keyboard functions may be disabled while using voice commands.

On some phones if voice activation is used to initiate a call the keyboard may be locked out while the call is active. This keyboard lockout may prevent direct entry of extensions or additional numeric values
This may be phone specific or phone operating system specific.
