Updating the software or firmware of your product | Bose Home Speaker 300
When an update is available, the speaker updates itself automatically overnight when it is not in use.
Your speaker checks for updates every day. If an update is available and the speaker is connected to the Internet, it will automatically be downloaded and installed. This typically happens overnight or when your system is idle.
To manually initiate a software update:
On the top of your product, simultaneously press and hold the Bluetooth® and Volume - buttons for 10 seconds:
- If an update is available, a white light scrolls across the light bar on the front of your product while it is updating. Once complete, your product reboots
- If no update is available, your product reboots
- While rebooting, the light bar with pulse; once rebooted, it will turn off
The additional methods below can be used if the standard update methods do not work
The processes above are the easiest way to update your Bose Smart product. It does require that your Smart Product is connected to the internet and you are using the Bose app. If the standard system update methods are inaccessible or not working, you can try an alternative update method.
Additional Update Methods
Updating using a computer and USB cable
To update your speaker using a computer and a USB cable:
- Use the following link to download the update file for your speaker: worldwide.bose.com/Support/HS300FW
- When prompted, save the product_update.zip file to your computer. Do not rename or open/unzip the file
Tip: If the prompt does not appear, the file may have downloaded automatically. Look for the file in a browser notification or in the computer Downloads folder - Connect a USB A-to-Micro USB cable from a computer to the SERVICE jack next to the power cord on the back bottom of your speaker
- Reboot your speaker by disconnecting the power cord for 30 seconds
- Wait for your speaker to reboot: While rebooting, the light bar pulses white; when rebooted, the light bar turns off
- Simultaneously touch and hold the Volume - and Volume + buttons on the top of the system for 5 seconds to enter Service mode. The light bar will gradually glow from the edges to the center, then blink to confirm Service mode
- In a separate web browser or tab, go to the following address: http://203.0.113.1:17008/update.html
IMPORTANT: This address will not work until you connect a computer, reboot your product and enter Service mode as described in the steps above - At the file update screen, click CHOOSE FILE
- In the file selection window, find and select the product_update.zip file you downloaded in Step 1
- Click UPLOAD and wait while the update is installed.
Updating using the Direct IP method
To update your speaker using the Direct IP method:
- On a computer, open an Internet browser and go to worldwide.bose.com/support/HS300FW
- When prompted, save the product_update.zip file. Do not rename or open/unzip the file.
Tip: If the prompt does not appear, the file may have downloaded automatically. Look for file in a browser notification or in the Downloads folder. - Unplug the power cord from the speaker for 30 seconds.
- Once the speaker finishes rebooting, determine its IP address. For more info, see Determining the IP address.
Tip: Be sure to check the IP address after rebooting since your router might assign a new address. - In a web browser, type the IP address followed by :17008/update.html into the address bar (i.e. 10.0.0.6:17008/update.html), the press Enter.
- Select Choose File, then select the update file downloaded earlier.
- Select Upload, then wait while the update is transferred and installed:
- UPLOAD COMPLETE appears in the browser once the file has been transferred to your speaker.
- While updating, a white light scrolls across the light bar on the front of your speaker.
- The update is complete when the light bar stops scrolling.
Updating using the built-in setup network
To update your speaker using the built-in setup network:
- On a computer, open an Internet browser and go to worldwide.bose.com/Support/HS300FW
- When prompted, save the product_update.zip file to your computer. Do not rename or open/unzip the file
Tip: If the prompt does not appear, the file may have downloaded automatically. Look for the file in a browser notification or in the computer Downloads folder - Restore your speaker to the factory settings. For more info, see Resetting your product
- On the computer, open the Wi-Fi menu and connect to the network name that begins with Bose followed by the model of your speaker
Tip: If you are prompted that there is no Internet access, choose to connect to the network anyway - In a separate web browser or tab, enter and go to the following address: http://203.0.113.1:17008/update.html
IMPORTANT: This address will not work until you restore your product to the factory settings and connect to its built-in network as described in the steps above - Select Choose File, then select the update file you downloaded earlier
- Select Upload, then wait while the update is transferred and installed:
- UPLOAD COMPLETE appears in the browser once the file has been transferred to your speaker
- While the speaker is updating, a white light scrolls across the light bar on the front of your speaker
- The update is complete when the light bar stops scrolling
