Updating the software or firmware of your product | Bose Portable Smart Speaker

When an update is available, the speaker updates itself automatically overnight when it is not in use.

Your speaker checks for updates every day. If an update is available and the speaker is connected to the Internet, it will automatically be downloaded and installed. This typically happens overnight or when your system is idle.

To check for an update:

With the speaker on and connected to the Internet, press and hold the Bluetooth® and Volume Down buttons for ten seconds until the light ring is filled with white light.

As the speaker checks for (and downloads) the latest update, the light ring will fill and clear with white light in a counter-clockwise direction

When the update is installing, white light fills and clears the light ring in a clockwise direction

The additional methods below can be used if the standard update methods do not work

The processes above are the easiest way to update your Bose Smart product. It does require that your Smart Product is connected to the internet and you are using the Bose app. If the standard system update methods are inaccessible or not working, you can try an alternative update method.

Additional Update Methods

Updating using a computer and USB cable

To update your speaker with a computer and a USB cable:

If your computer has a USB-C port, you can use the cable supplied with the speaker. Otherwise, you will need a USB-A to USB-C cable to perform these steps.
  1. Use the following link to download the update file for your system: worldwide.Bose.com/support/PHSFW
  2. When prompted, save the product_support.zip file to your computer. Do not rename or open/unzip the file
Tip: If the prompt does not appear, the file may have downloaded automatically. Look for the file in a browser notification or in the computer's Downloads folder
  3. Connect a USB cable from your computer to the USB-C jack the back of the speaker
  4. With the speaker on, reboot the speaker by pressing and holding the Play/Pause button for ten seconds. Wait for the speaker to fully boot up. The light ring will pulse white for up to 30 seconds during boot up
  5. Press and hold the Volume down and Volume up buttons for five seconds to enter service mode. White lights will appear in the light ring and increase in size during this time
  6. In a separate web browser or tab, go to the following address: http://203.0.113.1:17008/update.html
IMPORTANT: This address will not work until you connect a computer, reboot your product and enter Service mode as described in the steps above
  7. At the update screen, select Choose File
  8. In the file selection window, find and select the product_support.zip file you downloaded in step 1. Once selected, the "Choose File" button becomes an "Upload" button
  9. Click Upload and wait while the update installs. The light ring will fill and empty with white light while the update is installing. Once installed, your speaker will reboot.
