Using Amazon Alexa | Bose Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar

Setting up the Amazon Alexa voice assistant:

Note: If you have multiple products in your household, we recommend setting up the same Alexa account for each product.
Initial setup is completed in the Bose app. However, further configurations may require the Amazon Alexa app. iOS / Android

  1. In the Bose app icon , tap the Settings icon settings icon in the upper-right corner.
Tip: If a different product is shown, tap the My Bose icon my bose iconin upper-left corner then select the desired product.
  2. Select Voice Assistant then select Alexa.
  3. Follow the app instructions to link your Alexa account
    1. During setup, signing in to your Amazon account links your Alexa voice assistant to your Bose account for Alexa features (e.g. "Alexa, what's the weather?" or "Alexa, set a timer for 10 minutes")
    2. During setup, signing in to your Bose account links your Bose products to your Alexa voice assistant so it can control your products (i.e "Alexa, play jazz on [Bose product name]" or "Alexa, mute [Bose product name]")
  4. In the Amazon Alexa app, your Bose product appears twice under Alexa Devices. Do not remove either entry: One entry is for Alexa functionality and the other is for Bose product functionality. Additionally, if your product is renamed after initial setup, both entries will have different names in the Alexa app

To use the Amazon Alexa voice assistant with your product:

Note: Some Alexa features that are available with Alexa devices made by Amazon are not available with Alexa devices made by other brands.

Talking to Alexa

  • Say, "Alexa," to wake your product. While Alexa is listening, the light on the front of your product glows white. You can now make a request. For example:
Alexa, play funk
Alexa, set the volume to 5 (or a number between 1 and 10)
Alexa, next song
Alexa, set a timer for 5 minutes
Alexa, what's the weather?
Alexa, watch channel 25 (soundbars only)
  • If you have multiple products, control a specific one by saying the name you gave your product in the Bose app. For example, if you named your product “Kitchen,” say "Alexa, play funk in the kitchen."

Playing music services

Alexa can only play music services (i.e. Pandora or Deezer) that have been linked to your Amazon account. To link a service, open the Alexa app, go to Menu > Settings > Music & Media and add the music services you want to use. Once added, you can ask Alexa to play those services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unable to add the Amazon Alexa voice assistant

Close and re-open the Bose app.

On an iOS device:
  1. Swipe up from the bottom center of the screen to view active apps.
  2. Swipe left or right to find the Bose app.
  3. Swipe up on the app to close it.
On an Android device:
  1. Locate the Bose app then press and hold on the app icon.
  2. Select App Info (or the circled "i" icon) from the pop-up that appears.
  3. On the App Info screen, select Force Stop.

After the Bose app has been closed, tap on the app icon to re-open it.

Be sure the Bose app is up-to-date.

If the Bose app is not the latest version, it might be missing features or improvements. On your device, go to the app store, search for the app, select it, and if an update is available, install it.

Determine if the Alexa account is already linked to another Bose account.

An Amazon account can only be linked to one Bose account at a time. If the Amazon account linked to your Bose account is also linked to another Bose account, you might experience errors with Alexa or be unable to add the Amazon account to your Bose account.

If you have created more than one Bose account—or if you have shared your Amazon account with others—check any other Bose accounts that you or others have and remove the Amazon account from any Bose accounts other than your main account.

If you want to share an Amazon account with users on your network (i.e. family members with separate Bose accounts but a shared Amazon account), have one user add the Amazon account and Bose products to their Bose account.

Clear the cookies for the default web browser on your device, then try again.

When adding Alexa, the app opens your default web browser so you can log into your Amazon account. If a different Amazon account is already logged in through that browser, the browser will automatically enter login info for that account. To be sure you are logging into the correct account, clear the browser cookies. The browser will then prompt you to enter your Amazon account during setup.

Use the Google Chrome web browser and enable cookies during set up.

If the Bose app freezes after entering your voice assistant account login info, close the Bose app. Then, download and install the free Google Chrome web browser from your mobile device app store. Set Chrome as the default web browser on your mobile device, then try adding the voice assistant account again. Once added, you can uninstall Chrome and/or revert to your previous default browser.

Note: If the issue persists with Chrome, be sure cookies are enabled. In the Chrome app, go to Settings > Site Settings > Cookies and enable cookies.

Amazon Alexa cannot carry out command

In the Alexa app, disable and re-enable the Bose (Not for SoundTouch) skill.

To disable and re-enable the skill, open the Alexa app, select More, Skills & Games, type 'Bose (Not for Soundtouch)' into the search bar, and tap Search. Select the Bose (Not for Soundtouch) Skill for the option to 'Disable Skill' and then 'Enable To Use' afterward.

Please note: These steps align with the most current, up-to-date version of the Alexa app (IOS Version 2.2.581276.0 / Android Version 2.2.546320.0).

Remove and re-add Alexa in the Bose app.

Open the Bose app  icon, access the Settings menu of the speaker you are currently using and remove the Alexa voice assistant. Then, re-add the same Alexa account. This re-links Alexa to your Bose account and can correct any issues that may have occurred between the two accounts.

Reset your product.

To reset your product, power it off and disconnect the power cord for 30 seconds.
