Reboot vs Restore

There are two similar actions you can perform on your earbuds. The correct choice depends on the issue you are experiencing.

Reboot

A reboot restarts your earbuds without changing any of your settings. This should be your first step if the earbuds are frozen, unresponsive, or if the controls are not working.

Restore

Also called a Factory Reset or Factory Default, this action returns your earbuds to their original out-of-the-box state. It clears all settings, pairings, and customizations.

Use this only after other troubleshooting steps have failed, especially if the earbuds will not connect, will not pair, or if issues persist.

How to reboot the QuietComfort Earbuds

  1. Insert the earbuds into your ears
  2. Touch and hold each earbud for 15 seconds until you hear a tone.
    The earbuds power off.
NOTE: Each earbud must be powered off individually.

  3. Hold each earbud for 1 second to power them on. Each earbud must be powered on individually.

How to restore the earbuds:

  1. Delete the earbuds from your device's Bluetooth list. (If using in multi-point, be sure to delete the earbuds from both devices)
  2. Insert the earbuds into your ears.
  3. Touch and hold both earbuds for 7 seconds until you hear "Ready to pair" followed by a tone. Release when you hear the tone.

  4. Return them to the case, close the lid and wait for 5 seconds.

  5. The earbuds are now restored to their original out-of-box state, and you can reconnect them to your device(s).

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if a reset does not resolve my issue?

Try the following:

Try the restore process again

Repeat the restore steps once more, ensuring each step completes successfully.

Charge the earbuds for at least 20 minutes and try again

The earbuds may simply be out of power. Place them in the charging case and charge both the earbuds and the case for at least 20 minutes. Make sure the LED on the front of the case lights up to indicate successful charging.

Test with a different Bluetooth device

Some issues may be specific to the Bluetooth device you are trying to connect to. Try pairing the earbuds with another Bluetooth device to help determine the source of the problem.
