Cannot control Bose system with remote from another brand | SoundTouch® SA-5 amplifier
What type of universal remote is being used?
The remote is programmed by entering codes using the remote number pad
Try all of the Bose codes listed in the universal remotes instructions.
In order for a universal remote to operate the system, it must be set up according to instructions provided with the remote. If no Bose codes are listed or no code could be found to operate the system then the universal remote is incompatible
Bose has made the necessary IR control information available to universal remote manufacturers in order for them to incorporate the ability to control our systems. Due to the fact that manufacturers' implementation of our IR control information is different for each universal remote, we are not able to provide a code to enter into the universal remote. For example, one manufacturer can assign our IR control information to code 2345 for their remote while another manufacturer can assign the same IR control info to code 6789. Bose is not provided with any codes from universal remote manufacturers that use our IR control information.

The remote is programmed by selecting the brand and model of the device to be controlled
Try all of the Bose models listed in the universal remote's selection list.
Since some Bose products share the same IR control information, control over this Bose product may be obtained by selecting another Bose product. For example, CineMate IR control information is the same as the 321II & 321III remote. Also CineMate II IR control information is the same as the info used to control a Lifestyle series II, III or IV DVD system via IR
If Bose is not listed or no model name selection could operate the system then the universal remote is incompatible. Contact the manufacturer of the remote for further assistance.

No other remote can control the Bose system.
The system is controlled by Bluetooth® LE. Most universal or learning remotes, however, control by infrared. Because of this, they will not control the Bose system.
Use the SoundTouch app.
We recommend using the SoundTouch app either on a computer or compatible smart device.
Determine the type of universal remote being used.
Universal remotes can be set up to operate other devices via three common methods:
- Learning - The remote learns the IR codes from the original device
- Brand and model name selection - The remote is set up by selecting the brand and model name/number via an on-remote display or by connecting the remote to a computer
- Direct code entry - The remote is configured by manually entering a numeric code retrieved from a list provided by the universal remote manufacture
