SoundTouch® SA-5 amplifier | Connecting more than one pair of speakers
Connecting two pairs of speakers to the amplifier.
Two pairs of speakers can be connected to the back of the amplifer: one pair to section "A" and one pair to section "B." This setup is useful in large areas where additional speakers are needed for coverage or to have the amp power speakers in two different zonesNote:
- Both speaker pairs will act in unison
- Each speaker pair requires a minimum nominal impedance of 8 ohms:
- If using a single pair of speakers, each speaker must be 4 ohm minimum
- If using two pairs of speakers, each speaker must be 8 ohm minimum
Use this information to connect multiple speakers to a single speaker channel on the amp.
More than one speaker can be connected per channel provided that the speakers are wired in series or parallel based on their impedance to maintain a proper load on the amp. This type of setup will result in a lower sound output per speaker. All speakers connected this way will act in unisonNote: If multiple speakers are connected per channel and not wired appropriately, damage can occur due to an incorrect load on the amp
A common solution for this type of set up is to connect the amp's speaker outputs to an impedence-matching speaker selector that connects to the multiple pairs of speakers
Alternatively, multiple amps — each powering a single pair of speakers — can be used together. For more information, see Grouping systems
