Programming your remote | Bose Soundbar 500
Which option under the Universal Remote heading was selected?
TV
To program the soundbar to control a TV:
- In the Bose app, tap the Settings icon
in the upper-right corner.
If a different product is shown, tap the My Bose iconin upper-left corner then select the desired product.
- Under the Universal Remote section, select TV.
- Tap Connect to a New TV.
When connected to the TV using an HDMI cable, an option may be presented to have the soundbar obtain the TV brand, model number, and remote code using information provided by the TV.
If no code was found for the TV
- Tap Search For My TV to use this method.
The following three screens will appear during this process.
Once the screen with the Remove button appears, tap the back button in the upper-left corner to exit. - If the Manual Setup option was selected or the Search For My TV option wasn't presented, review the heads-up message then tap Continue.
- Tap the entry field, type and select the TV brand name, then tap Continue.
Note: A spinning circle appears in the entry field while brand names are being obtained. If the spinning circle does not stop, be sure your soundbar is connected to the Internet. - Check that the TV is powered on then tap My TV is On.
- Tap Turn Off Now. If the TV turned off, select Yes, otherwise select No, Try Again.
Note: Depending on the TV brand, the app might prompt you to try additional commands. If no code is found, refer to the next set of instructions below. - To program the system to control devices other than the TV, select Let's do it!, otherwise select I'm all set.
For help programming the system to control another device, select Configure below the \"If no code was found\" instructions.
- Select Enter Model Number to try searching by model name. Selecting Use Manufacturer's Remote will exit programming, requiring the use of the TV remote (or other universal remote) instead.
- Tap the Enter TV Model Number field to enter the TV model, then tap Continue.
- If a code was found for the model you entered, it will be used.
- If a code was not found for the model you entered, the soundbar will try to control the TV via HDMI-CEC. For this to work, the TV and soundbar will need to be connected using an HDMI cable, and the HDMI-CEC functionality of the TV must be enabled.
Configure
To program the soundbar to control cable or satellite box:
- In the Bose app, tap the Settings icon
in the upper-right corner.
If a different product is shown, tap the My Bose iconin upper-left corner then select the desired product.
- Under the Universal Remote section, select Configure.
- Tap Add A New Device.
- Select Cable / Satellite Box, review the heads-up message and tap Continue.
- Tap the entry field, type and select the brand name of the cable/satellite box (which may be a different name than name of your service provider), then tap Continue.
Note: A spinning circle appears in the entry field while brand names are being obtained. If the spinning circle does not stop, be sure your soundbar is connected to the Internet. - Check that the cable/satellite box is powered on, then tap My Device is On.
- Tap Try It Now or Turn It Off (this option varies by device). If the command worked, select Yes, otherwise select No, Try Again.
Note: Depending on the device, the app might prompt you to try additional commands. If no code is found, refer to the next set of instructions below. - Choose an icon for the device, then tap Continue.
- To configure soundbar to control another device, tap Let's do it!, otherwise select I'm all set.
If no code was found for the device
When no code could be found after selecting No, Try Again repeatedly, (or you selected Advanced Setup), the Let's Try Something Else screen appears.- Select Enter Model Number to try searching by model name. Selecting Use Manufacturer's Remote will exit programming, requireing the use of the device's original remote (or other universal remote) instead.
- Tap the Enter Device Model Number field to enter the device model, then tap Continue.
- If a code was found for the model you entered, it will be used.
- If a code was not found for the model you entered, the soundbar will try to control the device via HDMI-CEC. For this to work, the device, the TV, and soundbar will need to be connected using HDMI cables, and the HDMI-CEC functionality of the device and TV must be enabled.
- Choose an icon for the device then tap Continue.
- To configure soundbar to control another device, tap Let's do it!, otherwise select I'm all set.
To program the accessory universal remote:
Note: A programmable universal remote control is available as an accessory for your product. The remote that came with your product cannot be programmed to control other devices.
- In the Bose app, tap the Settings icon
in the upper-right corner.
If a different product is shown, tap the My Bose iconin upper-left corner then select the desired product.
- In the Universal Remote section:
- Select TV to program the system to control your TV.
- Select Configure to program the system to control other devices (e.g. cable box or Blu-ray player).
- Select Advanced to connect the Soundbar Universal Remote to the soundbar. For more info, see Pairing the remote control to your system.
