Updating the software or firmware of your product | Bose Ultra Open Earbuds
Select the earbuds or the charging case below for help updating.
Update the earbuds
Check if you have the latest software version.
It's possible that you product has been updated even though the status lights on the charging case didn't blink or react as instructed during the update process.
Check to see if your earbuds have the most up to date software version.
Going forward, you will be prompted in the Bose App when a new update is available.

- Take the earbuds out of the case and place them in your ears.
- In the Bose app, go to the Settings menu > Tech Info and check the Firmware Version listed. See Checking the software or firmware version for complete instructions.
- Go to Software and firmware versions and then compare the earbuds version in the app to the latest one listed in the software chart.
Going forward, you will be prompted in the Bose App when a new update is available.
Update your earbuds from the app.
Things to know
- When an update is available for your earbuds, the Bose app automatically downloads it
- If your earbuds are powered off while updating, the update will resume when they are powered on again and connected to the app
- It is recommended to keep Bose app notifications enabled so you are aware when an update is available
Installing an update
- When an update is available, the Bose app automatically downloads it
- Once downloaded, the app transfers the update to your earbuds, which can take up to 40 minutes
Tip: The earbuds must be connected to the app for this to happen. The app can be open or minimized but closing the app stops the transfer. Additionally, the earbuds must remain within Bluetooth range to stay connected to your device. - Once the update has transferred, tap Install Update
- Tap Update Now and follow app instructions to complete the update
- Wait for update to complete, which can take up to 15 minutes. While updating, the lights on your earbuds continuously blink white.
Checking the Firmware Version
Take the earbuds out of the case and place them in your ears.
- In the Bose app, go to the settings menu>Tech Info and check the Firmware Version listed.
Go to Software and firmware versions and then compare the earbuds version in the app to the latest one listed in the software chart.
Update the charging case
To update your product:
- On a computer, go to btu.bose.com to open the Bose updater
- Follow the updater instructions to update your product.
Tip: If the updater is not already installed on your computer, you will be prompted to download and install it.
